Many difficulties at the beginning of the new school year in Lai Chau

Entering the school year 2022-2023, Lai Chau province has spent a lot of resources to invest in facilities to meet teaching work. However, due to the implementation of the new general education program in 2018 in the area, the education sector faced many difficulties due to the lack of teachers at all levels.

In the school year 2022-2023, Xa De Phin Primary and Secondary School, Sin Ho District (Lai Chau) was established on the basis of merging two primary schools and junior high schools. The first year of implementing the new general education program with many difficulties due to many schools being far apart; The lack of teachers in the new program implementation, the lack of facilities for teaching, especially the lack of information technology has greatly affected the teaching work of the school.

Mr. Bui Ngoc Hong, Principal of Xa De Phin Primary and Secondary School, said that at present, the school’s function rooms are still lacking, and the teachers are not enough compared to the norm. The school is equipped with a computer room with 21 computers at the central school site. However, after the merger, the school has 3 schools, the points are more than 3km apart. When studying computer science, students from the school have to travel the above distance to the central school point, and then return to the school site after studying, which is very inconvenient.

Entering the new school year, the education sector in Sin Ho district (Lai Chau) has 64 schools with more than 25,000 students. Although it has organized training courses for the 2018 general education program for 100% of managers, professional groups, and teachers. However, the district only has 9/20 primary schools with Informatics rooms, along with that, the Informatics department lacks over 10 teachers and nearly 20 teachers in English. The lack of facilities as well as teachers is posing a big problem for schools, requiring the education sector of Sin Ho border district to take urgent measures to ensure good teaching work. .

Facing the difficulties of the tasks of the school year 2022-2023, Mr. Pham Van Phoi, Head of the Education and Training Department of Sin Ho district (Lai Chau) said that the Department of Education and Training had solutions to overcome the situation. There is a shortage of teachers, especially teachers of English and Informatics to teach the 3rd grade program. The Department has advised the District People’s Committee to send teachers from places where there is a surplus to places where there is a shortage and to places where there is a shortage of them. much lacking. The Department also reviews and assigns tasks for English teachers and Informatics teachers of junior high school to teach part-time English and Informatics subjects at primary level. That is a temporary solution, but in the long term, the sector also hopes the District People’s Committee and the relevant authorities create favorable conditions and recruit more teachers to ensure good teaching work in the district.

Currently, Lai Chau province is still short of more than 1,300 staff members compared to the norm, in which most of them are in preschool and lower secondary schools. Especially, in subjects applying the new program for the first time, the province still lacks 79 English teachers and 88 Informatics teachers at all three levels of primary, middle and high school.

In recent years, in Lai Chau, the number of students wishing to attend high school has increased. Therefore, the Department of Education and Training of Lai Chau province advised the provincial People’s Committee to allocate funds to invest in building more classrooms and ancillary works to meet the teaching and learning needs.

Mr. Dinh Trung Tuan, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Lai Chau province, said that based on the assigned staffing quota, the Department of Education and Training and the People’s Committees of districts and cities develop recruitment plans. education officials according to decentralization; prioritize recruitment of new subject teachers, especially teachers of English and Informatics subjects.

In addition, the Department of Education and Training has also directed the upper secondary schools and boarding schools for ethnic minorities in the area based on the school’s situation to enroll the maximum number of students wishing to enter the upper secondary school. or studying at a boarding school for ethnic minorities who are not entitled to the boarding regime. Currently, the average number of students in upper secondary schools is about 55 students/class; Boarding ethnic group 40 students/class – Mr. Tuan added.

The temporary solution being implemented by the education sector in Lai Chau is to rotate subject teachers in areas where there is a shortage of teachers to places where there is a shortage of many, and to sign short-term contracts with teachers in subjects with a shortage of teachers. However, the source of teachers for these subjects in Lai Chau is very scarce, requiring education managers and related sectors to have orientations and priority regimes to attract dedicated teachers. long-term for difficult areas like Lai Chau.
