Let’s join hands for a school without school violence

Many teachers, who are school principals, are very concerned when talking about school problems that have been happening more and more. When building happy schools, will continue to reduce and gradually reverse the problem of school violence.

The responsibility not only from teachers, schools, society but above all, the family must be the root of the problem. All must join hands to accompany and protect students, both the students who experience violence and those who commit violence, to heal the wounds in their hearts.

Within the framework of the seminar “Change for a happy school” organized by VTV7 and the Department of Teachers (Ministry of Education and Training) in Da Nang on September 24 and 25, with the participation of 400 principals from 50 provinces and cities nationwide, the issue of school violence has heated up discussions.

“School violence in Vietnam is just beginning”

Professor Peck Cho (Korea University – Korea) – An education advisor to the Korean government said that school violence in Vietnam is only in comparison to South Korea, Japan, the US or Europe. the beginning and the years that follow it will be even worse.

He emphasized: School violence is now a very serious problem. Based on my experience, I would say there is no easy solution to this problem. School violence in Vietnam if compared with Korea, Japan, America or Europe, you are just at the beginning stage and I think in the following years it will be even worse. So, this moment we have to do now, let’s do what we can even the smallest things

Answering the question of where and what is the cause, Prof. Peck Cho analyzed the problem of school violence due to the trauma children bring to school. These injuries can happen even when they are small children. When children in their development period cannot connect with their parents and deeply lose connection, lose trust, worry… as they grow older, they begin to show problems related to trauma disorders. psychological injury.

“However, we need to realize that the person who bully is actually someone who needs help, because the fragility and suffering that person is going through is shown in an unskillful way. what they are expressing is a cry, a call to me for help. If you react by reprimanding, scolding, or offending the bully, it will only add fuel to the fire and escalate your suffering. ” – Professor Ha Vinh Tho analyzed.

“So, we must always keep in mind the abuser or the bully, both are victims, need support. And teachers are the first, so that children can share. and also the first person to stand up to protect them” – Prof. Ha Vinh Tho said.

Building happy schools, repelling school violence

Prof. Ha Vinh Tho emphasized, “School violence does not happen at the level of an individual, but is systemic in structure… So it’s up to us to create a happy ecosystem that is students, teachers, and schools. school management and the government too, that is the only way to solve the root of the problem and the teachers are the seed of that ecosystem.”

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of this conference, many teachers were concerned about school problems, not only from students to students, but also from teachers to students. The problem is to find the “seeds” of this problem. Only by changing the approach, changing the teaching-learning environment in schools by building happy schools, where teachers and students can shorten the distance, share and understand more.

Teacher Ha Anh Tuan, Principal of An Nghia Primary and Secondary School (Lac Son District, Hoa Binh Province) frankly said that there are many causes of current school violence, one of which is quite large. due to family circumstances, parents’ divorce, difficult management by grandparents and parents. Students have a new age mentality, easy to follow friends. Along with recent times, social networks Facebook, Tiktok have developed like a storm. Many young people see other people posting pictures and fighting clips, so they also want to imitate and express themselves.

“In order to minimize school violence, the school regularly propagates and cooperates with mass organizations, especially the Young Pioneers Team, and the Student Parents Association to propagate to limit violence in schools. school strength,” said Mr. Tuan.

“Currently, the whole school has nearly 1,400 students, we have a red star team for each grade and grade 3 and up. Each grade level will set up teams of about 3 students. The school sets up a hotline, When there is a phenomenon or manifestation of school violence, they will immediately call this phone number or directly the homeroom teacher, “said Mr. Tuan.

Through this workshop, Mr. Tuan also wants to apply many happy school ideas to schools to reduce school violence in schools. The school creates many activities to bond between teachers and students; students and students aiming for a happy school.

Meanwhile, teacher Bui Thi Hai Yen, Principal of Hong Ha Primary School (Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City) said that currently school violence is taking place more and more complicatedly in schools. The reason is that students of all ages are exposed to technology early, lack of close attention from parents. Meanwhile, students are not aware of their behaviors.

“Currently, the school does not have prominent incidents of school violence, but in the case of students in grades 4 and 5, there are behaviors of pushing and jostling students and when students turn around, there is no immediate response. like apologizing, it is also a manifestation of school violence in the school,” Ms. Yen said.

“The school side is the primary education level, we hope that the approach to building a happy and friendly school will step by step help the students to be obedient and obedient. We also hope that the parents will join us. The school closely manages and takes care of the children, to share and cooperate to prevent the problem of school violence, “said Ms. Yen.

Teacher Dong Thi Thuy, Principal of Tran Van Tho Primary School for Ethnic Minorities Semi-Boarding School (Muong Nhe District, Dien Bien Province), shared: At the school, there have not been any incidents of school violence, but when witnessing the the case of school violence in the media, the press, myself as a teacher, a manager, I am very sad.

“In order to build a happy teaching-education environment, I think I will apply the things shared from this workshop to be able to do something, change, convey to teachers to teach. for students to love and unite with each other, teachers need to respect students and vice versa, “- Ms. Thuy shared.
